I am the soon to be proud owner of a 2000 250SD,CC,V-10 4x4.(Oct 11 I hope!)
Just wondering if any one knows if the 250SD axles (373 gear)have Differential breather vents. If so does anyone know of a manufacturer of extentions to avoid taking in water when 4 wheeling in deep water. I had some on one of my other trucks and they had a small filter at the top with a 15" stainless steel extention hose, but I cant find them anymore.
In the past, I have went to the auto parts store and bought a hose coupler (the kind that slides inside the hose) and bought a long piece of hose. I butt the two together and then tie it up to the top of the frame or body. If you make a loop in the top of the hose so it points back downward, the air trapped in that loop creates a pocket that won't let water in when you submerse it. This kept water out of the axles on my Ranger for over 6 years until I sold it. I plan to do it to my SD when I get the chance.
Thanks for the reply, Putting a loop at the top is a great idea. The truck I had my last extentions on was a Ranger too. Great truck for the mud, I pulled out many Chevy full size with it. Thanks again,I definetly want to protect my SD axles.
