Someone broke the window out of my truck. The extended cab part. They didnt get anything. I'm greatful.
My problem.....who's the enginner that designed that window assembly? $1,100 dollars is the list price for that window. Thats absurd and uncalled for. What was Ford thinking when it decided to do that to its customers? Now I'm on the hunt for a window.
Besides that, I now have two cars that have been broken into at the same hospital.
We live next to a Country Club and I had a Ford Z2 Escort... a golf ball found my back window and shattered it.... So I call the golf club and tell them (they have insurance for this reason)... First they gave me a bunch of guff and told me that I chose to live next to golf course then I got a appraisal for the window... 960.00$ when I told them, the manager told me I was crazy! He would not pay that kind of money... He didnt believe that it would cost that much... well with a lot of calling and going further up the chain of command I finally got my window fixed.. as it turns out my back window costs more than a Jag... go figure
Crazy isnt it. Its the two window set up, and its a whole insert type piece. I found one for $669.20 The window people tell me the one they found, is the only passenger side window assambly for my truck....in the whole U.S.
I guess Thursday I'll be removing the insert and finding a way to fix it up myself. Unless I have luck in a junk yard.
I'm in the autoglass business and am constantly amazed at the prices on the tempered window in today's vehicles. Try a salvage yard for a better deal if you are able to install it yourself. A lot of the glasses are bolt in units and aren't hard to install. Just be sure and use the proper adhesives.
The key to not getting your car broken into is "street creds" My neighborhood isn't the greatest, but we had a car broken into and then one of my room mates had someone pick a fight with him on the way home from work. We are all airline pilots and this guy tried to pick a fight with my room mate while he was in uniform. Needless to say, my room mate sent the guy to the hospital. The cop that showed up at the scene didn't want to know a thing about it. Moral of the story, no one has touched our cars or messed with us since my room mate earned the "street creds". You see a guy in uniform, you turn the other way.
What's the year on your truck? I was at the junkyard on Friday, looking for a new door, and saw a few 87-96 style extended cabs. For what I could get one for, plus shipping, I am sure would be a lot less.
Ford Six....Its a 91 f-150, passenger side is broken. Yea man. That would be awsome. Would you mind checkin that for me? Or givin me the name of the place. Thats great.
Rockin M....'Street creds' are no good in this hood. Its the south side of Austin, Texas in a hospital parking lot.
If it was at my house, an hour away.......they'd have a long driveway and a barn to get into.......and a dog that never sleeps on watch. This dog is so on it most the time, she paws me in the head and barks if a cow gets out of the fence.
wow. I know to never break the window in my 91 !!! Taht is ridiculous! I can rebuild a motor for less than the price of a 10-16" window?????......hmmm.....maybe I should jsut sell you mine? :P
I would suggest ordering a piece of polycarbonate from U.S. Plastics. and cutting it to fit. It is as clear as glass. You will need a plastic blade for a skill saw to cut it, they sell it. If you have a slight curve to your window, you will have to bend the plastic with heat, but, even when buying the tools for that, it will be much cheaper then then that Ford window.
Window for my 1995 Aerostar with the smoke option = $1200+
Yippie!! Got my window put in today. Turns out an aquantince of an aquantince owns a junk yard. Got the window, delivered even....$60, and $10 at NAPA for a tube of window sealant. A phillips head, a 3/8"open end and ten minutes later I was all sealed back up. Sweet, made my day. Very fortunate to get thru that so easily.
Why is it that the side and rear windows are so much, but the windshield costs so little? I mean the windshield is the most important one.
I wish I knew! The only thing I can think of is windshields get broken and replaced far more then all the others combined. Also, all the others are made of safety glass and not laminated glass like windshields. They are usually made with wierd curves and shapes that probably make them expensive to duplicate, especially the tinted ones.
Though I imagine the old Taurus windshields with the heaters inside that make them look pink cost a bit to replace.
I seem to remember a Federal law about windshields and making them available to aftermarket resources.
