What specifically are you looking for? All there is is a vacuum hose running from the vacuum tree (rear of the upper intake) down to the vacuum modulator on the passenger side of the transmission.
I just got this 1991 explorer. My husband heard a sound that sounded like a vacuum leak. He found on top of the motor in the back this thing sucking air to beat heck. We figured it must go to the tranny because the tranny was taking too long to shift. We tried all over to find a book for this year (1991) to show a pic of where the vacuum hose should get hooked. Our next stop would be the ford dealer which you know they charge an arm and leg just to look at things. Any help would be great! Hubby gets home between 4-5pm if all this blah blahing didn't answer your question. But we were looking for a diagram of the vacuum hoses.
Have you tried going to your local autoparts store(ie. Napa & autozone) and getting a chilton manual. If they dont have it in stock they should be able to order one.
On the so called vacuum tree there are 6 prongs. I only have 5 hoses coming off. I'm trying to find out what the 6th one is for. Tried every store in a 30 radius they do not carry the book I need for the 1991. Any other suggestion?
As for getting a repair manual, try a library. They often have Chiltons, Haynes, or even professional editions Motor, Mitchell, etc. For a Chiltons equivalent, see the vehicle repair guides at www.autozone.com.
If you can't find a vacuum hose going from the vacuum tree to the modulator, it probably just needs a new hose. On my '92, I know I have an extra vacuum port that is just capped off. Is it possible you're missing a cap rather than a hose?
It is in the back pointing more just at the dash. We found it was too the tranny. My hubby capped it off temporarily. When it is closed off the idole(?) runs better. It still takes too long to shift. 3.5 to 4.25 for over drive. Thanks for all your input. I'm going to stop at the ford dealer Friday and ask if there should be a hose there. But why would it be there if it isn't hooked up to a hose?
My wife was driving our explorer and noticed it was "running badly" her words...she took it to a local mechanic while I was at work and he noticed the same thing you described...
he capped off that vaccuum...and my wife said that fixed it...
as Paul Harver says...here is the rest of the story...
I drove it a couple weeks later and noticed it was shifting sluggishly...( my wife says she never noticed it)
Now I have a problem with the vaccuum modulator...
Definatley check the rest of the hoses on the tree...make sure they don't have transmission fluid in them...
I am in the process of replacing my vaccuum modulator right now...
If you go to autozone they should be able to order you a book. The book number for the Chilton is 8159. It is for the Bronco 2, Explorer, and ranger buit from 1983 to 1994.

Your Explorer might not use all 6 ports try plugging the 6th port and see how it runs
A length of hose runs from the tree to a metal tube at the top rear of the engine. This tube goes down the right side of the trans. to within about 8" of the modulator. Then there is another short hose to the modulator.
