OK, Here is what has happened. I had a problem with the factory exhaust, the converters melted down and caused the motor to blow oil out everywhere. Ended up losing the bearings so I swapped the motor with a "recycling yard" motor. Now, 30K later, that motor dropped a rod or bearing the other night. I am rebuilding the original motor, I have headers etc on the motor. For a 93 model, what is the best way to eliminate the air pump? I have seen the replacement for the 5.0 Mustangs that is only a pully with the same brackets as original. Did not know if there was a better way. I am interested in what others have done.
The way the belt is routed you could just measure how long it needs to be w/o the smog pump and get that length at the auto parts store. If you can get the idler it will be a lot easier though.
I just got done doing this. Just buy a shorter belt like low-side said. If you would rather not March performance makes some sweet brackets and pulleys. You can lose the a/c also if you wanted. Get rid of all the other crap that goes along with that air pump also piping etc... and plug the holes in the heads. Don't foget to plug the air lines that went to the air actuators or you'll have a vacuum leak.
