oil pump price

I realize you get what you pay for so let me say that first.
I want to change the oil pump and notice quite a price differance
one place wants 40.00 .And another place wants 110.00 both new.

I realize the lower price one can work as good as the 110.00 but
what concerns me most of all is the considerable price differance.

I suppose my main questions are have you guys used the low end price ones
with good results.

I am only doing it because I have high mileage 93000 and the book says is recommended. One place is autozone the other is napa. I have 1989 areostar
I like this van want to keep it up for 10 more years.

thanks

I rebuild the engine 3.0 in my wife's 89 areostar. I bought a Master rebuild kit from FlatLander Racing. $399.00.....$441.49 with shipping. It comes with a new Oil Pump.
It is made by Melling Engine Parts - Oil Pump part number M129

It works great...so maybe you can check and see if Autozone or Napa is using this brand.

Hi Jay:

That's exactly the one being sold by Autozone (Melling M-129). But I see a price of $58.99 online, not the $40 quoted by Teg3.

Teg3:

If you don't have low oil pressure, why go through the trouble of changing the oil pump, unless you are rebuilding the engine. I would suggest leaving it alone. 93,000 miles is not a whole lot for an oil pump. I have cars that have over 200,000 miles on the original oil pump.

The price maybe priced by area/state but in our local store 39.99.You have a point on the pump.I will leave it alone .The oil pan seems to have alot of clearance to remove it
without haveing to remove engine mounts ect its a 3.0 6 cyl.Would you agree.

thank you

Even though the oil pan seems like there is room, you should realize that the exhaust below the oil pan must be removed/lowered, the starter also must be removed along with the transmission inpection plate, and a ton of other things. The oil pan gasket is not that hard to put on, but you must be careful, otherwise it will leak. Considering all that trouble just to replace a part that's functioning perfectly, I'd say leave it alone. As I said, 93,000 miles is awfully young on the 3.0L engine. I wouldn't be surprised if you get another 93,000 miles out of this engine if you take good care of it.

Regards
