Broken tie rod end

I bought a 2000 F-150 3 months ago and have only put aprox. 2000K on it since, on Friday the tie rod end broke on the left front and put a hole in the aluminum wheel, no warning nothing noise before hand I was lucky I had just pulled into a parking lot when it went. The used car warrenty carrier
COAST TO COAST SERVICES are a bunch of crooks who cover nothing but themselves, my suggestion id DON'T ever deal with them.
The dealer has agreed to help out with tie rod and maybe the wheel, he spoke to a local Ford daeler on my behalf and was told that the tie rods on these trucks are junk and they pop out often, but Ford will not stand behind them and perhaps recall them. I have also been told that Chrysler uses them in the Durango and has had a recall. Anybody else have tie rods break without any warning?

Apparently these do fail sometimes.
How many miles on your truck?
It is important to check tie rod ends when you change your oil.
If it has any play in it at all it should be replaced.
If they get checked regularly you'll probably catch it before it breaks.

With the truck sitting on the ground have someone turn the steering wheel back and forth a bit, say 1/8 turn both ways, while you look at all the tie rod ends and see if there is any play in them. If there is you will see the tie rod move but not the steering knuckle or which end you're looking at.
Check the outer tie rod ends by grasping by hand and push up and down. Check the inner tie rod ends, pushing them front to rear. If any free play is observed in a joint, it is worn and should be replaced.
