water in fuel problem

Hi all

I have been seeing an indication that there is water in my fuel. I drained the filter as directed in the manual but the light continues to illuminate (it did appear that there was about a tablespoon of water in the fuel (9000 miles on truck). Is there a history of a problem with the sensor? Is this related to all of the other fuel system problems that I have been having (poor milage and poor power and the need to go in for a new flash as described by a letter from Ford (which improved mileage considerably).

Thanks

Sort of a history. The guy that designed it said it comes from the sensor sitting in water then rusting. I think if it was routinely drained as per the manual (monthly), there would be fewer problems. The 05s will have a different HCFM with a quick release drain on it to make draining much easier.

Here is a question, why can't we add a drain valve on where we pull the plug out?

Would it harm anything?

Probably not unless you have a 4x4 where the driveshaft runs right in front of the drain plug.

Sounds easy but its a strange metric thread and pitch. A few guys have tried to come up with something, no luck.

I knew that thing was designed by some out of work engineer that hates diesels.
