I was thinking of installing a Diablo Performance Chip from Motor Haven in my 2.3L Ranger for more power.I know that it plugs into the EEC,but where is it?Is it under the hood, the driver's seat, where!!I figure that these little guys would be worth the money since they give you around 15 extra horsepower. Also,if I buy the 2-stage chip, would that let me toggle between regular octane and premium gasoline?
What year is your ranger. On my 93 it was on the drivers side underneath the hood, attatched to the firewall. According to Chiltons, on 93-94 models, it's mounted low on the firewall, and on 95-up it is mounted high on the firewall. The two stage allows you to switch between the performance tune and stock mode which is basically an off mode for the chip and uses the stock program.
Anyways, the '92 should be the same as my 91. The computer is located in the passenger kick panel (directly below the glove box). I too have thought about getting one of these chips, but have yet to talk to someone who actually has one. Have you spoken to anyone who has one?
Don't know why my signature isn't showing up...Anyway,
AG4.0:
My Ranger is a 1992.Thanks for the heads-up on how the chip works.Do you run it on 89 or 93 octane with the chip on?
Traxxis:
Everyone's great here.Hope everything and everyone is good up your way.I haven't spoken with anyone about them, but I was hoping someone on here has one and wouldn't mind sharing some info with us about them.I really want some more power for my Ranger and I think that this is the best place to start.I also wouldn't mind doing the electric fan conversion to help with a little more power.
Recent improvements to the FTE website included adding a function where signatures are now displayed when a user runs his mouse over the "Signature" subtitle that is shown at the top right hand corner of every post box, right under the post count. This "mouseover" function cuts down on screen clutter and is also part of an overall plan to help keep the speed of the site up to snuff. I think you will like it once you get used to it.
FWIW, I believe FTE Mods, Admins, and also ClubFTE members can elect to have their signatures shown in the conventional manner.
Diablo can be tuned for pretty much all Ford's late 80's and newer, all you have to do is find your computer box code. Also, I would think that the electric fans should really help out the four cylinder.
Great...Sounds like an excellent deal then .I'll purchase the 2-stage chip so I can toggle between stock and the higher-performance level. When I install it,I'll bite the bullet and install the Flex-A-Lite Electric Fan Conversion Kit.These two items have to be the most reccomended things for a 2.3L.
I installed a Jet chip (stage 1) on my 94xlt 4.0L a couple of years ago. I also installed a K&N filter and new fuel filter. It was late at night when I finished, so I took to a long stretch of highway to test it out (no cops ). Man, was I amazed! I buried the speedometer in no time! ...and it still wanted more! I let off because it was a little sketchy doing well over 100mph in a 4x4! In my opinion it is money well-spent. The down-side: I hear you have to remove it to get accurate code readings when you put it in the shop. Also it may void your warranty if you have a newer truck.
