I have a late 1999 SD CC V10 Short bed truck with 3000 miles that has devoloped a number of irritating problems.1st on the list was a problem with the paint, it looked like it was sprayed to thin in areas on the bed and in certain light conditions you could see the yellow primer thru the white paint, my dealer concurd and said that the beds were manufactured and painted by some-one other than Ford and the dealer had to respray the bed much to my dismay.2nd problem happens eraticly, after running the truck for a distance and shutting it off to say get fuel when trying to start again it will start and die 4 or 5 times before staying running, dealer checked it out a found no problem and basicly said to drive it until it wont start anymore and than they will know what it is. 3rd problem happened yesterday while on the freeway, the transmisson overdrive light started blinking and the transmisson started to shift very hard, I guess this is another trip to the dealer. Anyone with similar problems or ideas? I love the truck but this is a bit much.
I've had none of these problems you mention on my 99 4x4 cc 350 V10. My paint was damaged during shipping but the dealer did a very good job of re-painting a few panels. I would go back to your dealer and tell him he can drive it until it quits and then figure out the problem. I don't know what lemon laws are like in your state but be as blunt as you can possibly be with the dealer and insist that they give you another truck to drive while they sort yours out or give you another truck. ~$30,000 is to much to pay for any vehicle much short of perfect.
Robert, I would agree with the previous post. I purchased a pre-owned '96 F250 4x, and when I got it home I noticed a few little things that were not to my satisfaction. I returned to the dealer the same day and went through each. The dealer fixed all the issues for me at no cost. Now my truck was not new, so "perfection" was not expected, but obvious things that should be fixed, the dealer has a responsibility to repair.
I would call Ford on their 800# and open a case. Then contact the dealer and tell him what you did and let Ford (the Company) handle the issues with the dealer. And make sure they give you a courtesy vehicle during the repairs.
One very important thing, you must be professional with your demands, I’ve noticed that getting upset and screaming will not get anything accomplished. If you’re assertive and professional, you will get your truck repaired. Good luck…
Unless something has changed at KTP (Which it could have) The truck beds are assembeled and painted in the same plant as the Cab, etc...
Sounds like a good line for a dealer to try and blame it on. I'd ask the dealer who and where the bed manufactures is so that you can write them a letter and complain and see what he says.
Robert,
Being a bodyman at a dealership a couple of thing's come to mind.
1 You don't usually see yellow primer thu thin factory
paint
2 When a scratch or dent is fixed in the dealers
bodyshop some shops use a yellow primer, you might
be seeing that
3 Some times bondo bleeds thru and will show a
yellow cast in white paint.
The last two are the worst case but if it sounds like them you can
A, Take a weak magnet with a cloth under it and see if you can detect bondo
B, Look up under the bed and look to see if it is distorted or under coated
