Because the injectors "run on" the oil and need the higher viscosity.

I've been running 15w40 in my gas truck for sometime now. I had a little valve train rattle at higher rpms. Now.....exapmle......4000 rpms this morning, and no valve rattle. My truck tells me all the time how good it was switching from 10w30 to 15w40. But thats my trucks expierence. Everyone has thier preference.
