Dome Light

Hello,

on my 98 F150, the dome light and Door Ajar light will stay on for several minutes at times, even when all the doors (3dr) are shut. I believe the problem is in the door light switch of the driver's door. The problem is that I don't know where the switch is located, I guess it is somewhere under the door panel.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks, Hans

We had the same problem on the 02 F550. It was still under warrenty, so had the switch swapped, (it was somewhere in the door latch). Talked to a guy, at one of the motels I seem to live at, with the same thing. He said they sprayed the latch with WD40 to make the switch work again. I haven't tried it yet, but probably will, since the truck went off warrenty last week. I'm not sure if they used the same setup in 98.

Yes it is installed in the door latch. Many times you can free then up by spraying WD 40 into the latches and closing the door about 10 times in succession. Eventually they may need replacing though.

Thanks for the help. Can I spray the switch without removing the door panel? I looked at the outside of the latch but could not see any switches, where exactly is the switch located?

Yes, just spray into the latch itself. The switch is intergrated into the latch. Spray a real good coat directly into the latch.
