This morning I was hooking up a trailer when I heard my diesel at idle almost quit. I tried reveing it up but it sounded like it was running on 4 cyl. About 40k miles back I replaced the CMP. Is this the same problem and what's the life of one of these?
Sorry, my mistake. Could be the CMP Sensor. A lot of guys carry a spare because of the problem with this part. Maybe you could change it out and keep the old one. If it's not the problem you at least have a spare which you will most certainly use at some point.
If it sounds like it is only running on 4 cylenders I would check the vavle cover wiring harneses one could be louse or going bad and it would drop a hole bank
Well I put in a new cam sensor and it didn't do the trick. I then remember the thread from Lagerhead about the wire harness. So I picked up every wire I could find and moved it around. I started the engine and it ran great. Any ideas what that is all about? I'm going back out there to look for worn wires. Any suggestions where to start? Which side, I'm going on a 1400 miles trip in a week and don't need this popping up again!
There are wires that pass through the vavle cover gasket these run the glow plugs and fire the injectors. Thats why when you said it droped a bank I sugested the vavle cover wiring harness. They are on the inside of the motor and there's a plug on the gasket
