Also my computer is not giving out any codes like it may have a malfuction is there anyother way to see if the IDM is my problem before I buy it. The service engine light has come on and it idles really ruff like on 5 or 6 cyl but Im no mechanic. Ive read to check the wires But dont know which wires to check somebody please help me out here
The Pcm sends a signal to the IDM, the IDM then sends electrical current to the injectors to make them fire. Usually if the IDM fails, the truck will not run, also if it is intermittent, there should be a check engine light on. More commonly the wiring going into the top of the valve cover gaskets melts at the connector. On your truck there is one connector on each valve cover, towards the center of the engine. Remove the passenger side connector and smell for burnt wiring, you'll know it you smell it. Do the same on the passenger side, sometimes you can also remove the oil fill cap and smell it also on the passenger side. If you find one that is melted, you'll have to replace the hardshell connector, some of the pins, and the valve cover gasket. I'ts usually a good idea too to replace the harness underneath the valve cover that plugs into the injectors and glow plugs. It's not as hard as it sounds and all you really need is basic hand tools and a socket set with a wobbly attachment.
Good uck!!
Ok guys the wires smell fine. I went and had it scanned again and nothing. So i pulled the fuel filter out and drained the (bowl) and Added some Diesel Kleen. I then started it back up and nothing diff. still running about 650 rpms. To me it seems like it is running on 4 or 5 cyl. Put it like this today is the only day I have drove it in 3 weeks and from a light a semi with a loaded trailer pulled away. I dont really want to take this to the Ford dealer they rape you over really bad as you all know.
