Ok here are the pictures of the potential new rig...they are in the gallery. There are 11 photos, look at them and tell me if this truck is worth 1,000 and the four years of backdated registration. Thanks
i paid 1800 for my highboy and its not nearly as nice as that and i dont know anything about it other than it was owned by a fire department. the only reason i paid that for it was the dana 60 under the front. i would go for it, that truck looks pretty good for 1000
Thanks for the input guys, I really appreciate. One question: Can anyone estimate the cost of the registration? It was never non-oped, so registration has to be paid from August of 2000 to present... I'm thinking around 400-500? Thanks
P.S. I can go back and take more pictures later. Any other areas of interest or places I should check for rust or corrosion? If I do buy, that camper shell is COMING OFF! If it were red to match the truck that would be ok, but it's not so I don't think so...unless I make some custom couches or something like that. Thanks again.
i would leave the camper on. it's nice to have something to sleep under if you go camping, if your into that sort of thing. the camper shell puts weight over the rearend and will help the truck ride better. aside from that, it's just nice to have. if anything, hang on to the camper, you might change your mind, i know they can be expensive, just put it up against a wall behind the house or put it on sawhorses to put stuff under. dont just junk it youll probably regret it at some point later
thanks again guys..I enjoy the prompt responses I get. Thanks for the info on the camper highboy, I didn't think of it that way...I was just thinking how mean the truck would look with more lift and bigger tires without the shell on it. I can't remember for sure, but someone told me that the truck might not have a solid front axle due to the coil spring suspension...and I don't have a pics posted that would tell. Any guesses? I'm thinking it is solid axle with the high pinion Dana 44. let me know what you think. Thanks
All half ton 4wd ford's were solid axle up until 1980. Thus for sure making that truck be a solid axle. As for rust check the cab corners, cab mounts, floor pans, and the braces underneath the box. Those were the places my 78 4wd started to rust out. That is because of 20 plus years of iowa winters.
