Banks Powerpack for V-10's

Well I talked to George Medows at Banks Engineering today, and they have completed the work on the 2000 V-10 Powerpack kits. He stated that they only have an issue with the 6-spd manual trans, but since I have an Auto I didn't ask what the issue was.

He stated that the Engineers told him that they are still getting a 50 HP and 65 ft.lb. increase at the rear wheels on the 2000's just as they did on the 1999's. He didn't have any Dyno charts or actual rear wheel numbers (makes me wonder).

I'm waiting on DIS to give me a price on the Kit (#49130).

Any one here with a Banks Powerpack on a V-10? If so what are your thoughts and comments?

Thanks,
Will

Banks Powerpack for V-10's

I sent DIS an e-mail looking for their price and delivery on the 2000 Kit and received a call today from them.

A very helpful lady, Inez called me and said that the part number George had given be was for the 1999's not the 2000's. They are still 2-3 months away on completing the 2000 kit.

They are having to develop a new "Y" pipe and Left Header for the 2000 V-10's.

The Stock 1999 Rear Wheel numbers that Banks is reporting are: 194.2 HP @ 4400 RPM and 302.3 ft.lbs. @ 2400 RPM.

My Stock 2000 Rear Wheel numbers are: ~245 HP and 335 ft.lbs. Looks like Ford made some nice rear wheel improvements or Banks is under reporting the 1999's. I'm looking forward to the 2000 Kit numbers to see where Banks lands.

Sorry to get anyone’s hopes up, but it looks like we will have to wait a few more months for the 2000 V-10 kit.

Banks Powerpack for V-10's

George Medows from Banks called again on 2-2-2000 with the real "2000" V-10 Kit number and info:

Kit #: 49131
Gain of: 50 HP and 65 ft.lbs. at the rear wheels and 8% increase in fuel economy!
List Price: $1,595

I called Inez at DIS and she called back this morning.
The kit number is good and she was getting me the rest of the spec's.

Well, Will, I've had a Banks Powerpack on my '99 F-250 V-10, SD SC LWB Lariat for slightly over 22,000 miles now, and I'm very happy with it! Judging from what it does for the truck in crossing the Alaska Range mountains round-trip each week, I'd guess that there actually was a substantial horsepower/torque increase upon installation. Incidentally, I DO use the highway!

As far as an increase in gas mileage is concerned .... dream on It improved fractionally, but not enough to ever cover the installed price of the Powerpack (but, probably just enough to cover the extra cost of the premium fuel that the Superchip requires).

All in all, I'm glad that I spent the Big Bucks to install it. I can hear the exhaust (to a reasonably limited extent), which wasn't possible with Ford's quite decent OEM system. Having my sense of hearing enabled while driving on ice gives me a definite edge in keeping everything under firm control.

It (the Banks system) is an expensive toy; but, then, so was the Super Duty! Try it, you'll like it.

Tom

Tom,

Thanks for the info. I'm glad to hear it increases the HP & TQ enough for you to fell it. I had my doubt's about the fuel ecomony increase, but then again 8% on my 16.5 highway rate would only increase it 1.3 MPG's, not bad.

You say you also have the SuperChip and that the MPG increase cover's it's premium fuel cost. Around here the premium fuel run's about 15% more then regular. So is the combination of the Banks and The SuperChip giving you the 15% increase? If so that's exactly what I want!

I also plan on installing a SuperChip as well.

"It (the Banks system) is an expensive toy; but, then, so was the Super Duty!" Yea youn sead it, and if I don't find a custome system at the Engineering/Racing shop I'll try it.

Again, thanks, for the feedback.

Thanks,
Will

Tom,

It's good to hear from you. It sounds like your truck is working well. Did you ever get that supercharger on it?? Take care.

Not yet, Paul. I'm waiting for Spring breakup (the season, not the suspension parts , so that traction will once again be there. Rightg now, I'm driving mostly on ice. The superduty is running great, and as the song goes "You could set my truck afire, and roll it down a hill, and I still wouldn't trade it for a Coupe deVille". Man, that Ford's a wonderful set of wheels!
