well, im finally gettin her done. I just pulled my tranny and have started the rebuild. I have been hesitant to do it because it means i can't drive my baby for a while! Anyone know anything about the E4OD? hopefully i dont run into any snags. Does anyone know where i can get specs on it? I need the torque specs and all that stuff before i put her back together! I just got done takin the valve bodies off the other night. Any input is cool. Thanks.
Tim, check the transmission/axle forum for info on the E4OD. You might search it first but if you don't find what you're looking for there post the questions. They'll definitely be able to help you out.
Do you have a manual for it? There's going to be a lot of specs in that tranny that need to be exact or it ain't gonna work right. You'll definitely need a shop manual to get it done right.
Check out Baumann Engineering. The E4OD is a tricky tranny. Rebuild it right and it will be very strong. Rebuild it wrong and it's not long for this world.
There was another article last year in one of the 4x4 mags that also did a write up of the E4OD tranny. They used Brians Truck Stop. His web site is http://brianstruckshop.com/
Also, check out High Impact at http://www.high-impact.net/ I have used this site several times for some of my upgrades in my rig.
I wish I new at least half this info up into the middle of last year when I had my E4OD rebuilt for the second time, and after 6 to 10 months later I started to have problems again. There are quite a few incompetant shops out there who just do not know what the heck they where doing.
hey thanks for the help guys! im puttin er back together now, ive got almost all my new clutch packs in. ive been workin all weekend... well ALMOST all weekend, it rained here so i had to hit the muddy trails on our land with my 4wheeler! Its a huge tranny i'll tell u that much! I was pretty much lookin for the torque specs and whatnot, i couldn't find any book that contained that at the ol autozone. o well, i'll figure somethin out! so far ive fabricated two different tools to do a few jobs on this tranny! all pretty good for a senior in high school i'd like to think ...haha im just tryin to make myself feel better after gettin so mad at my freakin 4wheeler that bogged out in my pit, had to push and drop gears to get er out...i was burried to my knees in cakey mud! and that was the high end of the pit!
