Question any suggestions???

hello guys, i just put a cat-back system on my 2003 f-150 5.4, i changed the starter pipe to 3", put a flowmaster 40 series delta flow singe 3" inlet dual 2.5" outlets with no tips, i really love the sound it makes but i would like to have it louder, i was thinking about changing the cats to a high flow cat but not sure if that would do alot, also im going to put some tips on but dont know what to go with, i really love the deep sound but i wish it was louder, i live in PA and we do have emission tests here, can someone please help me and give me some ideas to try? thanks guys...

i also have a different intake on it, it was a cheap one off of ebay, im gonn poop can it and buy a different one, im thinking about a fipk from k&n or a true flow intake, any suggestions here???

The stock catalytic convertors basically act as a muffler. They do cut down on the exhaust note quite a bit. How many cats do the new F series have anyways...4? Long, large tips will provide for a deeper rumble. As for a FIPK, dont bother. The stock air intake system will suffice. Check out http://www.performanceunlimited.com/projectmpg/ . A synopsis (if you didnt want to read through it) is that the stock intake element on the F-series, matched with a drop in replacement K&N filter will provide more power than the FIPK. It also provides for a significantly denser air charge (colder) versus the FIPK that pulls in warm engine bay air. Cooler air equals power. They used a special tape on that project (http://www.designengineering.com/cool_tape.html). I plan on wrapping my intake this spring with it.

In my opinion the best sound on o truck with cats is straight pipe no muffler it wont be to loud but will give the sound you want.

Yeah the 97-03 F150s have 4 cats on them and they really muffle a lot of sound. The 5.4s/4.6s I've heard with straight pipes after the cats don't sound obnoxious at all. The only way you are going to make your truck louder (keeping the Flowmaster) and stay legal is to install a pair of highflows to replace all 4. It can be quite a bit costly overall though with the cost of the cats and custom pipe work.
