I have a 2002 Ford explorer, and last week the "service engine soon" light came on. So I plugged in my code reader and it tells me code P1400 which is "Differential Pressure Feedback EGR Cicuit Low Input." The car drives fine, and has 37000 miles so no warranty. Will replacing the EGR or DPFE fix this problem, a new EGR is only $64. Or could it be something else, if so what and is it worth taking it to the dealer?
I called and Ford extended the waranty on the escape, but not the explorer. The service manager that I spoke to said that moisture must have gotten into the sensor and the DPFE sensor was probably bad, they sold a replacement kit for $71 which I could probably replace myself. Does that sound reasonable?
The new part available at Ford dealers is slightly larger than the original. I replaced the old one with a new one and my code has not come back. The new part at the dealer is cheaper too, $29. The part number is: 4U7Z 9J460 AA. Good luck. A very easy (and cheap now) fix. No tools needed.
I replaced the DPFE 2 days ago and the code has not come back! The parts guy told me to look for moisture in the old DPFE and there was water which is supposed to be a partial cause of the failure. Thanks for all the help.
