Shortwave's Gone!

thats right folks thanks to uncle sam in the coming months there will be no shortwave reception or ham transmosions in the U.S. The reason for this is because the internet providers are going to run internet thourough power lines thougout the entier nation. This is not a joke but im sure this new news to many of you since it has been kept out of the American media. Six other countrys have rejected to do this because of the obvious consquences. One other thing, there will be a internet connection at every outlet in your house in every home in America, and with this connection the Goverment will be able to easily and without you knowing montioring your entire house. The interent running thourgh lines will kill all signals from around zero kilohertz to 80,000 kizoherz which is the entire shotwave band. and for you ham radio operaters there is no more ham. I have a shortwave radio and listen strictly to foriegn for the sole reason to get away form the propaganda here. naturally im quite mad about this as are many shortwavers and ham operaters.

A cut and pasted section below --

Broadband service over power lines will be available city-wide in a few months. And while residents will be happily accessing the Internet through a modem plugged into their electrical outlets, amateur or "ham" radio users might lose their beloved and expensive form of communication.

The Manassas City Council recently granted a franchise to Prospect Street Broadband, LLC., which will manage the new network. A company called Main.net will provide the equipment, with the city offering use of its existing power lines. Manassas is the first city in the country to fully implement this service. Only pilot programs exit in various cities and towns.

Amateur radio is used to relay everything from casual messages to national emergency information to other users across a town, state, country or the world, including during hurricanes and on Sept. 11, 2001.

"There's real concern they could wipe out the 20-meter ham band," said Manassas resident and avid amateur radio user John Heartney.

David Sumner, Chief Executive Officer of the American Radio Relay League, said when Internet service is available through the city's powerlines, short-wave radio usage will be severely affected. The League sent representatives to Manassas to test this theory with the small BPL pilot program, and found significant interference

Some of the broadband-over-power equipment makers are sensitive to amatuer radio (as are the dsl equipment makers, btw). The solution is a very simple filter placed into the transmitter, normally strapped around the power line to induce a signal. As long as the receiver doesn't expect nor look for signals in the "HAM" band, it's not a problem.

If your local utility is trying to put broadband-over-power equipment in your area, make sure they use an equipment provider that provides HAM notching in their equipment.

see www.ibec.net for an example.

BPL (Broadband over Power Lines) is one of the largest issues that the Amateur Radio community is fighting. Ham Radio operators (myself included) are very well aware of the problem.

http://www.arrl.org/news/bandthreat/

This link has some info on the A.R.R.L.'s status on the fight against BPL. Personally I think we're gonna have to figure out a way to live with it. Will it end amateur radio? I don't think so, but it will make it far more difficult to use.

Ham radio operators aren't the only ones affected. Aircraft use shortwave frequencies (the problem would be on the airport side), the Military, Shortwave Broadcasters, the list goes on. It looks like it's getting pushed through whether we like it or not.

I first heared it on coast to coast AM in januray and at that time the FCC had rejected the idea. then about two weeks ago i heared they were starting it back up again. Now, this show is not some whacko conspiracy theory show, it is completey documented and they just deal with news and material you dont hear anywhere else and mostly deals with superntaural stuff. they have a website coast to coast AM.com or something like that, i havent been to the website recently but im sure its on there. This is not just going to kill ham its shortwave to. Do you really think they are going to invest time and money to shield the interfernce waves? the goverment is going to be happy to kill shortwave, that way you can just get your news from pro repulican, pro christan, stricly controlled American propaganda news networks.

Sounds a little 'black helicopter' to me. Can you explain how that's supposed to work.

Just in from a buddy in the BPL industry - his company notches HAM frequencies. He said the head RFI guy at the ARRL even told him he could jack up his transmission power and STILL be under 15B limits.

As I said earlier, make your local utilities require HAM notches. It's easy to do - just (a few) lazy manufacturers.

Go ahead and have your little joke. Thats what all you folks say about people tha present relevant and truthful information. The technologys there, the motives there, and there doing it! So go ahead make fun all you want your bullcrap critizm has no effect on me. Its quite simple really, as you may or may not know over a year ago bush intiated a law which allows the goverment to montior all e-mail and internet traffic, under the lie of "national security" just like theose damn partiot acts. So know that they are montioring all e-mail and internet traffic with a internet connection at every outlet they can easily monitor you though electrocic applicanes in combination with technolgy far beyond whats in the civilaian population( i know i didnt say that before). Go ahead and call me a nutcase conspricay freak they already montior people that dont agree with goverment policy as this has been proven before when people have gotten bug detectors and found bugs everwhere in there house. I already know my phone is tapped and they proably watching me like a hawk. The way it is in this country: you have the freedom to be a christan and the freedom to agree with goverment policy. anything else and you had better watch out cause they will get you. and yes that is backed up with proof from history.

Here are some more articles and links.. there is tons of info out there.

Amperion, one of the companies developing BPL
http://www.amperion.com/

Some generic article..
http://www.isp-planet.com/business/2004/amperion.html

There's also stuff on the FCC website, but you have to search a little.

Point is.. that it's technology that is out there and being tested right now. It certainly exists. Its not a figment of anyones imagination.

Color me paranoid too. I listen to Coast nightly and I'm with you on this. This is not a Bush thing. It doesn't matter who wins the upcoming election. Bush and Kerry are cousins, they are both Bonesmen, but, they aren't running anything anyways. They are just puppets. There is someone in the background pulling the strings.

What would happen if everyone went this way and then for some reason the power was lost?

So.. they can tell when I am watching pornographic movies on my DVD player, have turned on my blender to mix up a coctail, and plugged in my electonic sex devices?

If telecommunications are broadcast through the applicances, all they would be able to tell (save for the internet communication) is that Ihave the appliance turned on.

Who cares whether or not they know what time my alarm goes off in the morning and how cold my refrigerator is?

I understand the gripe about the amateur radio, but... This is hardly any more Big Brother than what the .gov has already had the capability to do.

Besidies, with nearly 300 million residents, you'd only be watched if there were probable cause (ie: a Felon, or you sent 100 emails a day to Saudi Arabia, or you're reeeeeealy really tan )
