Knock sensor compensation?
Webmaster Ken told me that the diablo sport delta chip stage two chip program is 'tow compatible'. But I called another Diablo dealer and he looked in the book and said that the V10 Stage II program was not tow compatible and I would need to buy a stage three.
. I want performance and I will tow a TT 4-5 times a year. If I have to switch tunes I would rather flip a switch than a 15 minute program. What exactly is the diff between a tow compatible and not tow compatible program? And what shoud I do?
Sounds like your Superchips dealer is short on details. For diesels, any performance tune is going to give higher EGTs at higher altitude. How high depends entirely on the tune selected. I recommend gauges at higher altitudes with a Superchips Microtuner, Diablo Predator or Diablo chip. An intake kit will also help lower EGTs.
There is no "book" for Diablo dealers to look at, I don't know where he came up with that idea. Knowing which programs to load on any stage depends on: asking Diablo if the dealer doesn't know, specifying the details to Diablo for them to supply back as a template, or experience (in our case, we have a log of thousands of programs done over the years). In our case, we helped perfect some of the early V10 codes through a lot of feedback between ourselves, Diablo and our customers. Frankly it was a royal pain early on with some of the codes (especially the AEOx codes). We did a lot of them back then long before the Superchips Microtuner came out for it. I remember the chuckle I had a couple of times when Diablo's warehouse called us asking which AOE program I had the best success with so they could supply it to a customer!
What is tow compatible? Less agressive transmission strategy and slightly richer mixture than a non-tow compatible tune, and less timing if you're in an area with poor fuel quality (California, ethanol, etc.)....
