Dumb question RE: switches

I recieved and installed my chip (thanks to Motorhaven for the quick service and on the fly correction of a shipping issue). I am pleased with the performance increase and found that it does as much as I had expected.

My dumb question is this. Can you disconnect the switch from the switch cable or the chip without disconnecting the battery cable? I have two reasons for asking. One being that I have not permanantly mounted my switch and two being that the module I recieved did not have the "retention loop" where the cable plugs into the chip. I know most will say "suuuure it was broken off when you got it" but it really was. If it were to somehow overcome my "tape retention system" that I came up with where he cable comes out the back of the computer through the big sticker and vibrate loose from the chip, would it cause a problem?

If it's not an issue, I am thinking I'll probably upgrade to a illuminated switch so I'll know for sure it is connected.

Yes, you can disconnect the switch without disconnecting the battery. If you take off the switch, it will default the chip to the center switch position.
