302 valve adjustment?

302 valve adjustment?
I put a ford racing e 303 cam in an 87 5.0 engine to replace my tired old 302. My question is, how to adjust the valves correctly before finishing it up? I have shims to mount under the rockers, can I do it this way before buying roller rockers later? Any help on adjusting the valves would be great, thank you.

if as I suspect you have pedestal mts for your valve train there is no adjustment you tighten the bolts and that sets the preload, if you have studs you should set the preload at about .040 or about 1/2 turn once contact is made with the pushrod lifter rocker, I prefer to set the adjustable rockers with the engine running, tighten until a rocker/lifter just stops ticking and then a further 1/3-1/2 turn.
