Can anyone out there give me some info on high flow cats. I am putting cold air intake and dual cat backs on 98 F-150 and would like to get the most out of them as I can. Are they worth the trouble?
Yes, the front 2 are actually like preheaters to help the main cat's work better. There are 2 per side. This is why Chebby's and Dodge's are so much louder than a Ford when you install a Flowmaster muffler. They don't use as many.
If you do replace the 4 with 2 high flow what kind of gain? WIll it not make the check engine light go off? I changed these on my old chevy silverado when I changed over to a flowmaster and there was a nice change in performance. With fords four cat system and living in california, if you changed to two would it pass the smog test?
So, wouldn't it be cheaper to use a smaller exhaust pipe size than 4 cats to create backpressure? So, if you create more backpressure you will gain more low end torque?
