I'm looking for a tonneau cover so that I can lock the bed of my FX4 flareside. I'm looking for something that is either sectional or rolling, since I don't want to have to pull the thing off everytime I put something big in the bed.
Anyone have any good experiences with a specific product?
DUDE!...I love mine! All a personal preference of course, but it's great. 4 panel fold up deal from kcovers.com Looks and works great. Lockable and is easy to remove. You can fold it all the way to the front and snap it in place for bed space or remove the whole thing (weighs about 20 lbs or so - has an aluminum exterior). There are a few photos on my web page and kcovers put my truck on their site too Cool...
I've got an Advance Tonneau cover. It's folds in half and locks. It comes off easy if need be.It was $575 delivered to my door UPS. Some pictures in my gallery.--Jack
I'm in the exact same boat. I'm a mobile DJ so I want to keep my gear in the bed. So it needs to be hard, weathertight and locking. But I also don't want to lose being able to haul tall things and lay in the bed at night looking up at the stars with m' lady by my side.
What other hard/folding coveres are out there besides Advance and Fold-A-Cover?
How is the locking mechinism on the Advance? Do the bed seals on the rails get in your way?
What seems more waterproof, the folding or the retractable?
The advance cover has 6 metal bars that go under the brackets you install to lock it. 2 in the front, 2 in the middle and 2 in the rear. So far, it looks water-tight throughout the entire cover. The only weak point I can see is the sides. You can't install the cover 'tight enough' so the metal bars pull it down snuggly to completely seal it. BUT, it basically has 2 seals on each side. The outer seal is more of a semi-hard rubber that the cover rests on. The inner seal is a true seal (D seal they call it). If water gets in the outer seal, it hits the second and stops...then runs out the back or front of the bed rail without going into the bed. The rear seals directly against the tailgate very well. The front is a slight bit open because the seal doesn't reach all the way up to the cover, but the cover has a flap that hangs down in front like the rear, so I don't see how water can get in there either.
The seals on the rails don't get in the way, but you wouldn't want to be rough with them with the cover off or you'd probably damage them. I'm thinking about finding some heavy duty door type seals to add a little extra protection. Then, I can't see how it will ever get water in the bed.
I had an Advance on my Sport Trac and currently have one on my SCrew and have never had any water get in them, even going through car washes and heavy downpours.-Jack
My problem is that I have a flare-side. I bought a roll-top from a shop here in Atlanta almost a month ago, now they're telling me the manufacturer says that it won't be available for my truck for another 3 weeks. I'll be in Kuwait by then.
Funny, they offered to get me a fold-a-cover for the same money ($900 w installation), but I know better. Kind of ticked me off too. I was born at night, but not last night.
Anybody had a PERAGON cover?
It looks interesting. I'm leaning toward that direction. Please give me some feedback.
Check out Peragon Bed Cover
I have no affiliation. A buddy of mine and fellow enthusiast stumbled across the site while researching covers for us.
Those Paragon covers look awsome. The guy at the shop I went to was putting them down, but then again, he was trying to sell me something else, so take it for what it's worth.
I have a peragon cover. I like the way it looks and operates, but if you are looking to keep things dry, forget it. I,m using it to hide my treestands and golf clubs and such and use the back seat for items that need to stay dry.
