There will be a little notice of power gain, you might want to check out summit racing or jegs for the pulleys. Better yet check March Pulleys website and see if there's an application for your truck.
I would not bother with the underdrive system. They are notorious for cooling and charging issues. They are really designed for vehicles with higher rpm ranges (ie mustangs). Trucks do not reap the same benefits. We do not run our vehicles at high rpms. I know that underdrives have been mentioned here before. You should do a search for them.
wheelma1, would a TB upgrade be a better way to go then? I think everyone on here speaks highly of going to a 56mm TB. I'm with kameroth and want more horse - whats the best way that you've found/ heard of? Yeah I know its not a sports car, but who wants to go slow? -William
A TB swap is a good bolt on. Just realize that when you do swap them, you can/will burn more gas. You have to keep the stoichiometric A/F ratio the same (about 14.7:1). Horsepower is not everthing. Perceived power relies on a number of things. One of the main points is gearing. You will "feel" more power with lower gearing. We all know that the stock gearing of the broncos is too high (at least I feel so). I would love 4.10s in mine. That would make the bronco feel stronger, because it would get up and going alot quicker.
Just completed my throttle body change and yes what a differance it made , cant tell about the gas mileage yet. Swap was a no brainer . Definatly worth the $$ thanks TR
Just on a note, most underdrive pulley kits are made of aluminum and I have seen plenty of aluminum pulleys get eaten up by the belts themselves. Aluminum pulleys are only good for race cars, but ofr anything else, you will be changing pulleys every 60,000 miles
Dont waste your money on underdrive pullies, unless you want to face overheating and your alternator not putting out any juice until your rpms are quite high. Use that money for a free flowing exhaust with headers and put a electric fan set-up on and dump your power robbing factory fan. The electric fan set-up is one of your best bangs for the buck, it will develop around 20 rwhp. It's tough to get that with most other bolt ons, let alone in the same price range as the fans.
Where is a good place to find a better throttle bodie? Also I am not sure but I have had a few friends go to the electric fan set up and they have major over heating problems with them.
Do you know what manufacturers they used for their fans? It sounds like they may have used universal setups. Companies such as Flex-a-lite make custom fit applications. They put a lot of money into testing their systems. It takes money to do things right. Much like anything you can purchase for youre vehicle, price normally dictates quality. Check out www.proficientperformance.com They should have some TBs.
Both Summit and Jegs carry the BBK Twin 56MM throttle body. It is a great bolt on and I did not see a noticeable effect on my gas mileage. I did get significantly improved throttle response and acceleration.
Electric fans are another great method to put some power back at the wheels where it belongs. I recently installed Flexalite Model # 295, 4600 CFM Electric Fans in my Bronc, and I am very pleased with the results. I wanted more control over my cooling system, and figured I might get a little power back to the wheels. I was genuinely surprised by the "seat of the pants" gain in power and torque. The trick to electric fans is to make sure they move enough air to keep the truck cool. The Flexalites do the job, and the adjustable thermostat lets you decide how much is enough. They come on at 60% to take the load off of the electrical system, and then speed up to 100% if required.
There are pictures of both the throttle body and electric fan upgrades in my gallery. More/better pictures and descriptions on my website.
I like those Flexalite Fans BigRed...I put in the Dual set-up from Performance Products. They use a differnt configuration, the fans will come on at progressive temperature rise individually rather than both at a lesser flow rating. The fans are mounted with pins through the radiator fins, I like the mounting set up on the Flexalite better. Check em out in my gallery.
Flex-a-lite is the industry standard from what I have seen. I dont know how their kit can be almost double that of Flex's. Any idea? You think its worth that much more?
