v10 idling time, Harmful?
Just wondering, what is longest time you guys have let your v10 idle. The reason i want to know is because, i let my truck idle quite while i am out and about, sometimes 30 min at a time exspecially in the summer with the ac blowing. Will excessive idling hurt the mighy v10?

Police and taxi do it all the time. While it isn't the best thing in the world, as long as your cooling system is up to it, you should be OK.
The negatives to idling besides wasting fuel are some increased chance for deposits in the oil and a little more wear and tear. One danger is that carbon monoxide can gather under or around the vehicle and can asphixiate you. Usually this is only a problem in deep snow with either a leaky exhaust or blocked tail pipe.
I always thought diesels were supposed to be great at long idling. I always hear the truckers running all nite to keep cabin heat etc. But maybe the pickup diesels are not meant for the same duty.
I have run my gas 460 at times for 30 min to an hour idling with either heater or AC on and the engine never skipped a beat or fouled the plugs.
Just my opinions,

Same story as Munkey. We drove to the Grand Canyon and pulled off the side of the road. I had a Stabbin' Cabin on my 1994 F150 with an I6 300 and the plan was to leave the slider open while the AC was on to cool the stabbin' cabin enough to be comfortable and cut it off. Well, we were so tired that we fell asleep almost instantly and left the truck idling for about 9 hours. The rear tank took a bit of a hit but we were confortable all night. I don't think it ever hurt it.

Boy, am i glad i went gas and NOT diesel! If I would have had a diesel I would have had to spend extra money on a hotel room, or sleep in the cold. Hmmm, $5000 more initially to get a diesel and hotel fees because i cant let it idle all nite. Seems that in the nitty gritty, diesel owner spend more money. LOL

why cant ya let a diesel idle. I farm for a living and we alwasy let are tractors and truck idle in between quick uses. they dont hardly use any fuel and run so much better when ya let them idle. plus in the cold country they leave there trucks run all the time or they would never get them started again. let my old 6.9 run for hours on end doing work in the fields to keep the engine driven air compressor running for my air tools. it dont hardly use a gallon of fuel in 6 hours like to see a gasser do that.
