my head lights started to flicker on and off and i dont know why, i did a wiggle test and nothing. they will cut out for a sec and then come back on, like normal. help.....
Mine did a similar thing when the headlight switch went bad.
It could also be any number of other things in the headlight circuit: multi-function switch, grounds, bulbs, connectors, etc.
my bronco II also did the same thing. it was the hi beam/low beam switch. the switch was burned and the wires going into the switch were also burned. i replaced the switch and replaced the wires, however the switch still gets hot. i was told it was because the wires used from the factory were too small. i have heard this about a lot of fords. good luck.
Mine use to get too hot, too. I finally went over the wiring very carefully and found that, due to worn connectors, I was getting bad connections at the headlamps.
Went out to work one morning and no lights on my 88, changed the headlight switch and they worked fine for about a week and then started flickering. Turned out it was the high beam switch in the column. The headlight switch was visibly burnt on the contact going to the high beam switch and the high beam switch was really cooked and distorted. There must be too many amps going through these switches and there should be relays or something anyway, There is a red (yellow stripe) wire running from the headlight switch to the high beam switch in the column. From there you have a light green (black stripe) to the high beams and red (black stripe) to the low beams.
In a pinch you can cut and jumper the two reds and that will give you low beams only but you'll be good to go. I put a SPDT switch in the steel just below and to the right of the column and wired my high and low beams there temporarily. The wires are long enough and it works good. I just bought a parts truck and will be changing the high beam switch soon and going back to the column switch. But this arrangement works fine now. Check these switches and your problems ( with Lights anyway ) should go away
