I am looking at a 1979 250 4x4 300 cid, runs good, has small leak it appears from rear main engine. VIN #F26RRED1514 and info on door says Max.GW 8100, trans. A, Axle 37, WB 133, and then there is a F265, 74 and a BAYSD4. Seller was asking $800 but said make offer. Badging on side of truck says 250 Custom. Oil on dipstick looked ok but was above full mark and there was a little whitish, thick, like cream residue around inside lip of oil filler cap. Would appreciate any opinions..............Thanks.
The whitish cream residue is probably the result of coolant leaking in the oil, which kind of froths up and leaves that residue. Coudl be a head gasket, or a cracked head, or a leak around the timing cover. A compression test would help with that one.
I bet this truck makes lot of short trips so it doesn't make it up to normal operating temp very much ?
That is whats causing *little bits ofcreamed chocolate milk*
As the engine warms up the frost on the cold metal it turns to condensation and mixes a little with Oil.
This is probably on the oil filler cap as well.
I second Mil1ions thoughts. If the seller will let you, I'd clean the dip stick and oil breather, drive the truck for an hour or so and see if the oil looks milky. If there are no coolant leaks (head gasket or cracked head) the oil should look ok.

unless this is a rust bucket and runs bad you better snag it up I gave 500 for one and never heard it run.. try to buy the front axle the cheapest I could find was $350 for a dana 44 and the rear you think they are made of gold.... since the seller said make offer shoot him a lower price of $600 then you wil probably get it for $700 garunteed
Thanks for the great advice and I will try to drive it and check oil again. Oil looked ok on dipstick after running for a few minutes but was way over fill mark after being wiped off several times and rechecked but had no indication of water.
