I have a 2000 Explorer EB with the 5.0L and 45000 miles. Rite after I start it idles up for like a sec. then goes into a rough idle like it wants to die. I have even started to notice that more frequently when I am going slow and turning the wheel it does the same. It is really starting to bother me. I have the extended warranty, and I would use it but I dont know what to tell them, and I was hoping that ya'll would know?? Thanks in advance for any and all help !!!
Any CEL's coming up? Could be a number of things - from just needing an IAC and MAF cleaning - to maybe needing to replace the fuel filter - to a low charge from the alternator.
Got any other symptoms - maybe something from the gauges?
Might check to see if the belt is tightening from one of the idlers or pulleys being bad.
I'm just guessing on these, so lets try to narrow it down some...
Ok, It dosent show any probs form the gauges, all are perfect, just got a new belt about 1 month ago, has a lifetime warranty, and the "Check Engine" light has never came on. So it might need a fuel filter, but the alternator has never shown a low charge.how this will help narrow it down!
Hmmm...I had the same problem with mine when the IAC died on me. It would idle fine for a second then idles very low to the point where it was gonna stall.
Either that or there's a fuel/air mixture problem.
Dude, if you have the extended warrenty, exercise it. Your parents paid for it and it deserves to be used.
Ok I will try Replacing the Fuel Filter and see it that helps if that dosent i will look at the IAC and the MAS if they are over 50.00 it is going it to the shop ($50.00 Deductable)and they can fix them. Sound like a good idea ??
it was 49.79 for the MAP sensor on my chev form GM, i bet fords would not be much different. Best way to check the map sensor, take a manual vacume meter and see what you have for vacume, and hookup to a computer or something and see what your PCM thinks the Vacume is, that way you can rule out the MAP sensor. As for the IAC, do a search, there is a way to test those.
It could also be some bad gas.I don't know what type of gas you use,or brand.Maybe It,s just the store you use?I'd try another tank of gas from diffrent store first, and if that didn't help,I'd change the fuel filter next!
Well i just checked my MAF with a little test out of my Haynes Repair Manual. It said to connect a voltmeeter to certain holes on the plug nad that i should read more than 10 volts or close to battery voltage. Well it didn't, it read 6.1 at the most, could this be a prob, but ironicly it started right up with no rough idle after i performed this test.
And as far as gas goes isually rotate back and forth between Exxon and Texaco(Shell) I rarely use off of the wall gas. Well hope you all can help !!
Time to use your warrenty. You don't pay almost $1500 for nothing. I'm glad I used mine b/c they swapped a new transfer case and shift motor 1000 miles before the warrenty expired.
IAC. I had a mechanic tell me this check. Start your car and let it heat up to normal operating temp. Now shut it down and dissconect the the electrical connector to the IAC, then restart. It will now idel low. Does this duplicate your issue? If so there is a good chance it is the IAC. Being a Eltronics Tech for a living +/- 4VDC may not be a bad reading, so much as a calibration issue on the meter. A test of voltage usually fails by greater than 75% of the expected voltage (in your case 2.5v). Borrow another meter from someone and try again. Hope this helps...
