i was wondering, would it be good idea, or amybe someone has already done this before, would it bea good idea to insulate the paneling, im talking take off everything inside, and then pop some insulation in there.
The paneling does have some insualtion on it from the factory (fiberglas on my '96) I pulled everything out and sprayed all the sheetmetal with RoadKill sound dampener, put in Dynamat hood liner on the hood and roof, and used Cascade floor panel barrier on the floorpan. The ride is much quieter (with the stereo off!) and I have no rattles with the stereo cranked.
This is a little expensive to do, but I already had the stuff left over from a previous project.
A really easy way to quiet down the ride cost-effectively is spray all the sheet metal with a paintable undercoating (inside and out) this also gives a measure of rust protection in crappy climates like up here in Michigan.
I suppose stuffing some pink panther in between the panels and sheet metal would work resonably well.
i found this thread under a search for insulation. i have the same question. i have my side panels out to tighten the windows which were leaking. i wonder if that spray on foam would work for insulation? you know, that expandable stuff? . i'm also redoing the back carpet with indoor-outdoor grey stuff from the hardware store. i found a roll of stuff called heat shield sound and heat barrier i'm gonna put on the metal floor, then new carpet batting, then new carpet.that should keep some road noise down. i'll be at it a while. am replacing back lift hatch struts now. my main idea was to clean the van up a little, and keep it inexpensive. ...i've been eyeing those old speakers too...but i guess i should leave them alone..... #%$$... so if you have any thoughts or words of wisdom, i'm interested. thanks!! rick

I've used the expandable stuff to stiffen blind panels in my honda (filling voids) the only problem with doing this in an aero is the fact that chassis will flex on rough roads and cause the hardened epando-foam to squeak. I would buy a roll of Pink and stuff the panels before using the expanding stuff. Probably cheaper that way as well. I would recommend using the sound/heat shielding on the roof if possible to quiet the air turbulence going over the van as the floors usually already have the foil coated cardboard/felt on the floorpan from the factory.
i pulled out that foil board ,it had gotten all wet, so i scrapped it. i figure the foil heat shield stuff will do. thanks for the input on the can sprayfoam stuff. i guess i could spray the back of the panels..? i'll look for pink stuff. do they sell rolls of foam as opposed to bats of fiberglass? as i see it i need something that will not hold water ,not rattle or come lose....another trip to the hardware ! rick
hey silver, are you the one on car/sounddomain? ive seen another silver bullet on there and it didnt look too bad, i think it had a custom rear bumper too. let me know if thats you.
