Update on the whine. I ran a can of sea-foam Trans Tune in it for a couple days which really darkened the fluid. I then did a complete fluid (16 qts) and filter change and viola', no more whine. Trans pan looked really good, no suprises when I opened it up.

Rosey,
As I had stated earlier in this thread, I had the tranny flushed and a new filter installed just before my whining problems first started. Had you done anything like this before yours started to whine? Where did you get the Sea-Foam Trans Tune?
Are there any mods to the engine? K&N air filter maybe? After putting mine on I have noticed a whining noise from the engine compartment but its due to the mod so I don't worry about plus you only hear it at idle and when its cold.

Nope! No mods on the engine. The sound is definitely a fluid bathed metallic sound from the transmission. My guess is either the front pump or torque converter. The Trans Tune may be the way to go.
I got the trans tune from NAPA. I've used original Sea-Foam for years on my snowmobiles. It turns out to be almost a necessity on my wife's Yamaha RX-1 due to some cylinder carboning issues. That is why I decided to try it in the transmission. I hope you have the same good luck. Note that when I changed fluid, I did drain the Torque converter and the pan. In addition, I used carb cleaner on the inside of the pan and really took my time cleaning the ring magnet. Be sure to remove it from the pan to clean it, it is meerly stuck there via magnetic attraction. Be sure to post your experience. Perhaps the most startling thing was how quickly the fluid darkened after adding the Trans Tune. My fluid looked (and smelled) perfect prior to adding it so it obviously cleaned something up!
I agree with rangedog. I had a pcv that chatter so fast that it sounded like a whine. Thought it was a idler pulley until i loosened the belt a checked it. Pull the pcv and put your thumb over the end. Noise will either stop or you will feel the vibration. Worth a look.
