89 7.3 problems??

89 7.3 problems??

Ok for those of you that havent noticed I'm trying to get as much info n the 89 7.3 f-250 5pd. 4x4. I'm in a crunch and need a truch to pull a horse trailer. and it looks like ther is a good deal on a low mile 128K truck as discraibed above. I would realy apriciate any and all info I can get in this. What I should look for. in buying this truck . I heard sone talk about this one cavatating. is that true? please give me you piece of mind. Thnks much J..

I can't give you piece of mind but will tell you I'd rather go through these trucks than buy new. check the coolant additve level if its below 2.3 I would not buy it. the whole deal is the 6.9 and the 7.3 have the same block. The 7.3 is a 6.9 bored 0.110 over. normally you hear people boring motors thirty over (0.030). this makes the 7.3 like a huge gamble. Buying them used is even more of a gamble. Make a point to ask what the ower did with it (how much was he pulling. see what he has for proof of maintence. also buy the way unless you go to a single mass flywheel you will pay 1000 for a clutch and flywheel(recomended) just in parts.

sorry for being a novise but how do I check the coolant level.?What dose 2.3 mean?

you will need to get a test kit i got one from cummins just cause i work around them try your local auto parts store

Do the srips get diped in the coolant? I guess there are probable directions on the box. any tips though that might not be?? J.

NAPA should also have the test kit.
