I currently live in CA, and I just ordered a 2001 F250 CC 4X4 LWB SRW with the 5.4, auto, Lariat package, and 4.10 LS rear end. (I know, they're not making 2001 models yet, but the dealer is trying to make sure I get one of the first ones off the line.) The problem is that the 4.10 LS is not available in CA due to emissions restrictions. When they put the 4.10 LS on there, it automatically removes the CA emissions. This isn't a problem for me, since I currently have a truck registered in CT. I'll be transferring those plates to the new truck and moving back to CT as soon as I get it. The General Manager of the dealership, however, is requesting 50% down. I gave the salesman a $500 "good faith" deposit when I placed the order. The GM's point is valid, since he couldn't sell the truck if I back out of the deal. However, Reno is only 5 hours away, and I know they carry CA emissions on some of their vehicles. A swap could be arranged. The regional rep happens to be in the area, and I'll be meeting with him tonight. Any advice?
Hi mega nuke,
Have you thought of ordering a new truck out of state over the phone? If you are moving anyway, why don't you figure out what you want to pay now and then contact a dealer in the state you are going to live? Order a truck, then send the deposit. Believe me they are not worried about the check clearing before your truck comes in. It is going to take months. If you order in a state without emmission controls they can resell later if you back out.
Actually, backing out would make them more money because they could keep your deposit and then fleece a needy buyer for full price. Why order in California when you are not going to live here? Eilyns
I need the truck to move back to CT. I'll be putting my motorcycle in the bed, and towing the wife's 99 Mustang Cobra behind it. I could attempt this with my 98 Ranger, but I don't think it would make it! I don't trust moving companies with vehicles, after all the horror stories I've heard and witnessed.
Update: Regional rep never showed up at the dealership, so the meeting was canceled/postponed. I called my salesman today, and he said he would take care of the GM. He knows we're serious about buying the truck, but to put the GM's mind at ease, he's asked us to show proof of financing. I don't have a problem with that, since I should have that paperwork in hand this week.
