Firestone Reimbursement?

Just received my Safety campaign notice the other day and called the 1-800-465-1904 number under the section REIMBURSEMENT to see how to receive credit for the replacement of my tires. The paragraph reads that if you had them replaced after March 1, 2003 for reason other than misuse, puncture, or normal wear, please call them for instructions on how to submit documentation in order to obtain reimbursement. After calling the number and giving them the information that I had my tires replaced in September of 2003 due to two tire failures, I was advised that Firestone would NOT reimburse me because I did not take the defective tires to a Firestone dealer for inspection under warranty. Has anyone had any luck getting reimbursement? What options do I have?

Thanks!

I got my tires replaced by my local Ford dealer on April 24th of this year. The reason was that the tires showed alot of cracking in the rubber of the side walls. It still had a good amount of tread left on it though. The only thing I tow is a 3500lb fishing boat and thats not very often.

I have called the Firestone number and gave them my information and they told me that it would be 4-6 weeks for an answer. Thats really "BS"... What kind of service is that???

I have a similar tale of tire woes. I had my tires replaced a year ago by my Ford dealer because of huge hunks of sidewalls falling off the tires....although I had 90 percent of the tread life left. I was also told by Firestone that they would send me a claim form but to expect it to take a long time in coming?????? They are concentrating their initial efforts on getting faulty tires off the vehicles and replacing them with new and then they will give us who have eyes the time of day to talk about IF we qualify for reimbursement. The key to IF you qualify seems to be if the dealer gave you tire tread credit when you had your tires replaced. As soon as the Firestone phone rep heard that I got tread credit he took my name and address to send me a form. That was a month ago and I haven't seen the form yet.
Good luck.

Its been over a month now and Firestone just barely sent me the form to feel out to see if I will qualify for reimburstment.

lockdoc600,

you said something about a tread credit??? When I brought my 2001 X PSD in for service in Feb. the service advisor and I was looking at my steeltex tires and noticed that they were really cracked on the side walls so he offered me a deal on some Pirrelli's STR and I took it. My Steeltex tires still had good tread on them but he didn't give me any paper stating a tread credit. I will have to call and check with him.

yes, the wording tread credit kicked the Firestone rep into high gear in our conversation. I...like you replaced my tires because the sidewalls were peeling off in v shaped sections. The ford dealer gave me about 90% tread credit on two of the tires and 75% tread credit on the other two.

I suppose Firestone is thinking that if you got tread credits the tires were replaced BECAUSE of their issues and not because you wore the tires out. I have yet to see my reimbursement form and I sure could use the money for the mods I'm making this week.

Good luck!

Must be contagious

I bought my ex in April of 2000. In July of 2001 I had to have all four replaced due to severe wear. I have all documentation including pics of tires and I too tried the claim number upon receiving Firestone form and was told because I didnt have tires or get a letter when they were replaced I was S*O*L. I told them I have all documentation showing tires were bad after just a little over a year including pics and the said too bad. I went off and let em have it with both barrels. Maybe we should get a posse and go to the Firestone headquarters and duct tape the big boss and make him read these posts. This was so wrong. The tires were bad from the start and they knew it. There should be something that can be done. The tires on so many went bad early not after 2003.

To update you all....I got my Firestone rebate lat week!!! I had replaced the tires due to the sidewalls peeling off a year ago and I got my check for reimbursement last week! The key to this was the fact that I had gotten a tire tread adjustment. If you wore the tread off and paid for replacements you will not get reimbursed. My friend replaced his tires because of the extreme tread wear and did not qualify for a reimbursement but as I got a tread adjustment I did!

Good luck......

lockdoc600,

Big Congrats!!! on the reimburstment from firestone. I am still waiting on an answer so I called my ford dealer and the cool guys there are going to pursue this with ford sinse they have had so many complaints on this issue. I was assured that it will be taken care of in a much more timely manner then firestone. Lets see where it gets me.

Just a sidebar to the replacement issue.....don't forget your spare is also included in the recall!! Although I received my refund for the tires I paid for last year.....I am still in a holding pattern for the new replacement tires. When we replaced my tires last year they installed another Firestone series that is also included in the recall.....therefore....I have five new tires coming for my 2000 X with almost 70,000 miles! Ya' gotta love it when things work out in your favor!

how much reimbursement?

How much are you guys getting reimbursed for? I replaced all four Firestones (and kept them) because one tire had a tread separate from the carcass. I replaced with Bridgestone Revo AT. It would be nice to get reimbursed for the whole amount I paid for those babies!

I did call the number for reimbursement, gave my info and the nice lady on the other end told me I would get my packet in 2-3 weeks!

John-
I got a refund from Firestone for the amount of difference that I paid for my tires to be replaced last year....I think the amount of the difference was $439.00 or so. Firestone paid the total amount of my invoice.

I am still waiting for the new tires to hit the dealership. I called them today and they have not yet seen one replacement tire!!! They have a huge lot of Bridgestone tires on order......including five for me!! Oh well....I'll just keep racking up the miles on these defects and get some more free miles I guess!
