Edelbrock install question
Just got back from Vegas(brought my boys to the Monster Jam World Finals) and am going to install my new 750 Edelbrock on a 1985 F250 w/ C6 and 460. While reading the installation instructions, I came across a NOTE that states that some late model Fords with 460 are equipped with a hot fuel bypass. If so equipped, it says it is necessary to replace the stock unit with Ford # E3TZ9N176B which has a .040 orifice.
How do I know if my truck is so equipped and why is it necessary to replace this part? Has anyone run across this?
p.s.- If anyone cares, Gravedigger is the new race champion and Madusa, Maximum Destruction, and Bounty Hunter all tied with a 31 for the title of Freestyle champion. Great show again!
Your motor most likely has it. To find it, check where the metal fuel lines come up from the frame rail. The larger line is the supply and the smaller is the return. The two come together on top of the motor – mine is next to the ignition coil – at a tee set up. Large line in, then line going to the carb, and the smaller line going back to the tank. That tee is the device in question. Inside the device there is an opening that controls the amount of fuel that goes back to the tank. I know there are different sized openings but I do not know what size you would have. If you can find a part number on the device I’m sure Ford can tell you or they may be able to tell you what was spec’ed for your motor.
I don’t remember seeing such a note when I got my Edelbrock. Maybe it is only with certain model carbs.
Good luck,
Mark
