I got my truck via Canada and when I was cleaning it the other day underneath with my power washer, I noticed there is no catalytic converter... just a straight pipe where it should be between the engine and the muffler. Do diesels have cats???
I know I don't want one installed and I live in an area that does not inspect vehicles... So do I go after Ford and say what the hey or just live like its not a probem??? Cause I really don't care but don't want to be pulled over some day to say, yeah officer, I knew I did not have one since first buying it from my dealer....

To begin what year is your vehicle?
Second, diesels do not produce hydrcarbons and therefore do not benefit from the use of catalytic converters. What you may have seen on other diesels are soot canisters that are used to try to reduce the amount of soot an engine emits. I believe that Ford discontinued the use of these after 2002
Not a stupid question...It's not because it was a Canadian truck, I purchased mine in AZ and came cat-less from the factory. I believe 99.5 (build date 1/99 and later) and 00 models with 6 speed did not come with a cat, but automatics did.
This is one of the reasons I HATE not having our sigs listed so we know who has what model/year truck. It's a frinkin pain to look up each members gallery to see what they own. Sorry, I did not specify.. My truck is a 2003 F350 SD auto Fx4 short bed.
my psd does not have one, and its a 00 auto. I am still trying to figure out why the manuals got em and the autos didn't, one less thing to give me troubel.

Depends on the PCM code. My early 01 six speed did not come with a cat, and most everything prior to that didn't either. The mid year change to the 275hp programs initially did not meet emmissions, and had converters (or whatever they are) installed. They eventually got the 275 certified, but then some other stuff happened, so the 02 and 03's are kind of hit and miss, but they (the six speed trucks) most certainly do not all have cats.
