Streetmaster intake.

Anybody running one of these?

Which would be a better choice for a 4X4 truck motor, a streetmaster (single plane) or performer (dual plane) manifold? I am planning a buildup of a 400 for my truck and I have not seen any threads dictating which would be a better choice. I like the way the streetmaster looks, but I dont want to sacrifice the low end torque I will need.

The dual plane is better for low end torque than a single plane. I like the Weiand 8010, better than the Edelbrock 2171 because it has a more generous carb mounting surface.

BTW, I am using a Streetmaster on my lastest build, but low end torque is not a primary concern.

Another question. Other than the EGR passages are there any other differences between the Edelbrock performer EGR and non-EGR. I plan on blocking off the exhaust crossover with the fel-pro gaskets.

Compared to their Performer 400 EGR manifold, the Edelbrock non-EGR manifold has a flimsy carb mounting flange, but bigger port exit size. Both the EGR and non-EGR Edelbrock manifolds have exhaust crossover and Thermactor AIR passages.

The Weiand manifold has better ports and a better carb mounting flange than the Performer non-EGR. And although it wouldn't have a CARB EO#, you could drill an EGR passage into the exhaust crossover (from the carb mounting flange on the Weiand manifold) and set up a functional EGR system. The Weiand manifold also has a larger plenum volume than either of the Edelbrocks, which should provide more mid-range power potential.

Like the Edelbrock manifolds, the Weiand has exhaust crossover and Thermactor AIR passages.

I can honestly tell you, the Performer pulls stronger and higher than the Streetmaster. With the Streetmaster, the 400 topped out at 5600 rpm, but with the Performer, we got a stronger bottom and mid-range, and it pulls past 6200 rpm. This was with a 750 cfm carburetor and stock manifolds/2 1/4 inch pipe to 5 inch stacks.

Bubba knows that I block off those EGR crossover and Thermactor passages in my manifolds. I hate heating up that intake air more than I have to.
