Can anyone recommend a good method of locking the spare tire on a 2000 F350 SD? We've had a rash of tire thefts in the neighborhood recently... they're (scumbag thiefs!) just cutting the cable and walking off with the tire! I'd rather not have to put a pad lock and chain on it, since it does get quite a bit of weather exposure, and the lock may get corroded, etc. so I may not be able to open it when I need to. Thanks in advance for any suggestions, advice, experiences, etc.
The one I bought has a steel rod that attatches to the cross member above the tire. As you raise the tire, the rod passes through one of the bolt holes. The rod is notched and a locking device goes over the rod and locks onto one of the notches. Really nice, doesn't hang down and prolly hard to cut off.
I bought it from Quality Bumper in Mesa, AZ I don't know the brand name but the part number is MSS-DWL3000FS. Back in November of 98 it was $13.95. Quality Bumper's main # is 602-258-9577.
