I have a 2002 expedition, 5.4 eng, 70k miles and I have found that each plug has its own coil and the back two on the right and left side will be a real pain to get to. I called ford and they want 350.00 to change the 8 plugs.
1.) Does anyone have a good way to changing them and what plugs they recommend?
2.) I purchased Bosh Platinum but from what I have read they have been causing probs with other exp edition owners so I am interested in hearing what others say about them and what is recommended.
Do a search of the past threads as there is a lot of info out there on plugs for the 5.4 and how to replace them. From what I remember the overwhelming consensus is replace them with Motorcraft , same ones that came in your Expy from the factory.
Si, definitely use the OEM Motorcrafts. Many get 80k-100K+ miles out of them, so they must be pretty good plugs. I've heard horror stories about Bosch plugs so unless you're willing to possibly do the job twice.......
I've recently seen where a bunch of guys are recommending the Denso & NGK Iridiums, but those are around $10-12 each.

Are you positive? Does Autolite make the plugs for Motorcraft? I've always heard they are different manufacturers, but have never personally researched it.
I just changed mine about 3 weeks ago. I put in Champion duoble platinums and it has been running great. It took about 3 1/2 hours and that included one broken CAP bolt, just follow the directions in the tech articles section.

I got my NGK Iridiums at O'Reilly for $6.95/each. I've had them in my F250 V10 for over 20K miles, very happy, so I put them in the Expy as well. Took me about 1.5 hours. For the back plugs, use 2 extensions with a u-joint in between them.
