Got a pjroblem with my truck not shifting into high gear.
Ranger is a l989 4x4 automatic with about l50,000 on the speedo. For the last three years has basically sat being used very little.
The other day took it out on highway. At 55 mph tack was reading over 3200 prm. When driving you couuld feel the truck going in and out of gear. You could also see the tack go from 3200 rpm down to 2200 rpm and back. After about 40 miles went into high gear and stayed there; however next day stayed in third (did not go that far nor do I want the thing to blow up on me)
Has anyone had this problem? Should I be thinking transmission. Otherwise the truck runs fine. Fluid full and looks good. Trans does not slip and passing gear is fine.
Do the rest of the sihfts seem fine? Might be a TPS sensor. Could be low line pressure also. Try flushing the tranny. Put a can of trans tune in, run it for a little bit around town and stuff, about a 100 miles to let the trans tune break stuff loose. Then change the fluid and filter, also drain the torque convertor. Try the flush thing first and we will go from there.
Have had some electrical problems with gauges so problem could be electrical. CAn you give me any insight as to how to check. I know if I go to a shop all they will see is dollar signs.
