Transfer Case Woes
The transfer case on my 99 F350 SD 4X4 dually has just self-destructed for the second time. It's a power stroke, hauls horse trailers long distances and over mountains, but doesn't pull very heavy loads and is driven sensibly. So far all of this is under warranty (<30K miles) but it's very inconvenient. Is this a common problem? Weak link in the drive train? Any solutions other than switching to 2WD? Any help appreciated...

The department manager says that it is now a new, supposedly stronger, replacement transfer case (because of this problem) which has just been available for a few months. We'll see....
