360 compression test
360 compression test
I just ran a compression test on my 360. Just bought the truck, engine is original as far as I know.
The passenger side was 150, 150, 150, and 135 psi.
The driver side was 120, 95, 90, and 45 psi.
Do you think there's a good chance the head gasket is bad on the driver's side? Would it be a good test to put a new head gasket in and re-test?

Any other blown head gasket signs? Water in the oil, etc.? Probably got some bad valves, did you put a teaspoon of oil in the bad cylinders and re-check them to see if it was bad rings? Let me look back because I did the same thing on my 360 about a month ago and posted them here.
Here is what mine had:
1-125
2-120
3-100 (112 with oil)
4-125
5-120
6-125
7-124
8-75 (85 with oil)

Thanks for the link. Some good discussion there.
I only did the test with a little oil in the cylinders, as this engine hasn't run in a while and I wanted to keep things lubed.
I have not seen any water in the oil or vice versa.

I know it's an old thread... I am going through a new to me F100 with a 360 in it. Getting some odd numbers on compression...
May be a tired old engine..
1. 95
2. 98
3. 103
4. 96
5. 106
6. 100
7. 105
8. 97
Something is off... maybe my gauge is done, gonna try another. Has anyone else seen consistent low numbers in a 360fe? I am guessing it has roughly 130k on it. Have no idea of maintenance history, but it is original to truck. re-ring time and some heads to the shop?
