I have a 99f250, V-10 with 28,000 miles
About 1-3 times per week, when you go to start the truck, it starts and cuts off. The only way to make it run is to drive with the gas and the brake unitl it warms up. This problem has been happening since I have owned the truck and only happens about 1-4 time per week. Has anyone had a similar problem. The dealer has not been able to fix this problem.
Thanks for any replies.
Well, I can't tell you exactly whats wrong but, I'll give you a place to start. If you look alittle after the air cleaner, there are two hoses going into the intake, one on top of the other. It you unhook the top one and start the truck, the truck will start just fine. But, right after it starts and drops down to idle, it will shut down. If you hook it back up, it starts and runs just fine. I have no idea where the hose leads to or what it's for but, from your limited description you might want to find out what it does and where it goes. If you find out what it is and what it does, make sure you share your new found information.
I called the dealer to tell them that the truck had the same problem on saturday. My Service guy told me to bring the truck to him today. When I went to start the truck it cur off again. I called the dealer and told it was doing it now.
He told me to bring the truck to him. I informed him that if I drove it to him, the by the time I got there it would stop.He was not willing to send someone over to look at it or bring a tow truck to pick it up. I brought the truck to him. Of course, by the time I got there it warmed up and ran fine. HOW'S THAT FOR SERVICE.
PS: I will look at the hose you spoke of.
Thanks
I had the exact same thing happen with my '99 V10. Took it to my dealer and they replaced the idle air control valve (base part number 9F715). Apparently the old one was sticking and not allowing the truck to run until warmed up. Good luck with yours.

While the truck was at the dealer. I told them about the replacing the valve. The service guy told me he knew about this, but could not replace this item because the computer did not flag any problems. He said when they replace items that they must be sent back to ford and if they find the item is not bad, the dealer will be charged for that part. Pretty good service, huh. They did however fix the chattering brakes by resurfacing the rotors which seems to be a rather frequent problem on these trucks.
That is the biggest bunch of bologna I ever heard. The dealer should fix the problem regardless of what the computer says! I can't believe they actually told you that. I KNOW my old valve ended up in the trash because I was there with the mechanic when he changed it. If I were you, I'd look for another dealer.
They finally fixed my problem.
The truck was at the dealer for 3 days last week and they did not do a thing to it. They said they never could make it happen. The problem started again on sunday and took it to the dealer on monday. I talked with the manager and he said they would replace the idle air control valve.
I can already tell that this fixed the problem.
Finally
I have the same problem with my 99 v1 crew cab 4X4.
When reading this note I felt like I was reading my life story. My service guy blamed my K&N filter for the problem. He said that the oil on these filters caused moisture problem on my mass airflow senser which caused the problem. He said that since there was no stall code on my computer that they cannot fix it. Great servie!
