Just wondering if you guys can tell me what my truck is?
On the cowl the emblem says F350 Custom
1979 F350
460
C6
Dana 60 4.11 L/S
external trans cooler
P/S
power brakes
a/c
cruise control
tilt wheel
srw
duel tanks
spare tire in the side of the bed
140" wheel base
10" or 12" wide rear wheels
If this was a camper special wouldn't it have a emblem?
Sounds like a mix and match truck. A camper special with air, cruise, etc... would not be a Custom. 140" wb is camper special only (super was dropped from the name in the late '70's), as with the pass side spare tire carrier. The Dana 60 did not come with the truck though, only a Dana 70 came in them. Yes, if it was a camper special, it would have a badge.
sounds like a custom order
in the late seventies the ford dealer i worked at the owner
had a demo for hauling his horse trailers and other things
it was pretty much the same as you described. One trip i took
from tampa to ohio in it with a 40 ft flat bed trailer I could
only get 2 to 3 miles per gallon
I have a '78 F-350 which is very similar to yours, with the exception of no cruise/tilt, 3.54 open rear, and standard rear wheels. Mine has the original paint, and I can find no evidence of any other emblems ever being on the truck - only F-350 Custom.
I have the front and rear sway bars, full gauges, and what looks to be a HD relay (looks similar to the starter solenoid) on the driver's side fenderwell for the auxiliary battery. I believe the factory mirrors were a 3-point mounting, all below the window. It's got the HD radiator and the "R" in the same location in the VIN.
I just assumed that with no Super Camper Special emblem, that this truck was not a Super Camper, but had just been ordered with some extras.
It would be good to find the factory '78 sales brochure to see what it says about the package. Got to check the door/pillar tags tomorrow night.
I don't have swaybars or the duel batteries.
Sounds like the same mirrors. Its got full gauges.
I think all the 460 trucks have that big radiator, but not sure.
I bought the truck from some friends who's father had it new back in the day.I can remember we where freshmen in high school.
The truck still has the orginial paint, there was no other emblems.
