Replace fuel pump?

Hey all! Just picked up a 69 f250 2wd camper special, 360 auto.
It had only been driven occasionally for the past few years. A airline pilot had it, but replaced it with a new crew cab. 97000 miles on it. runs and drives great, just like the truck I learned to drive in. My dad had the ranger package though, every option but air, in solid white. This truck is two tone maroon and white, I think its a sweet combination.
Well here's the question: Its leaking a little gas from the fuel pump. Its a little greasy and grimy there, so hard to tell exactly where it's leaking. I think it would be just as easy to swap out the pump as to clean it up and check for leaks. My only reservation to a new pump is that it currently works fine, and I dont want to put on a part that could fail. Getting good replacement parts has been hit or miss for me lately. What do you think? Any parts manufactors to stay away from?
Thanks.

I've had very good luck with NAPA parts for older Ford V8s. When I replace a fuel pump I put a filter between the pump and gas tank. There is usually a rubber hose coming from the metal fuel line from the tank to the pump. I figure I just put on a new pump I don't want any dirt or rust taking it out.

Hey,
I can't tell you what manufacturing co.'s to stay away from.
But, as far as installing a part that is destined to fail, you should consider that if your fuel pump is currently leaking it is definately destined for failure.

1. New Fuel Pump = Maybe Fail ??
2. Leaking F/Pump = Definate Fail !

I find the fuel filter seal to usually be the suspect. You should get one with a new filter for a few bucks.
It may be a tight fit with the oil filter bracket/gasket. Mine would bind there with the fuel filter seal, keep it from turning when I tightened the filter and that caused the leaks.
