offset piston pins

i was reading an article and it was talking about offset pins in 302's and swapping the pistons around to to add about 10-15 horse. said they were about 0.030 offset, i was just wondering if anybody knew more on the subject.

Well I would think the only thing you gain from this is a higher compression ratio and that could be had by shaving the heads or installing bigger pistons to begin with.

You would also have to be very careful that the piston top does not hit the bottom of the head.

the pins are offset from side to side to help the thrust angles on the pistons and improve sealing of the rings and hence better oil control and wear.If they were offset vertically you would encounter clearance problems with the head and valves.

Yes, pistons are offset from the factory. They are marked with and arrow so they will be placed facing forwards. Some time back some folks discovered that installing them "backwards" was worth a few horsepower. It also caused piston rattle on startup and tended to crack and break off.
A useful trick for certain types of racing, but not a good idea for any other purpose. Expect much shortened engine life doing this.
