2002 Explorer - Locks then Unlocks

My 2002 Explorer has an intermittent problem. A couple times each month when I turn off the ignition & remove the key I open the door and press the lock button on the door and the doors lock & immediately unlock. This is how the power locks are supposed to work if the key is still in the ignition (but its not in the ignition). My Ford dealer has not been able to duplicate it, so they haven't been able to fix it...

Might be a bad switch in the door.

Yup, mine does the same occasionally. I'm guessing that the rear tailgate switch is not quite making contact so it thinks its not closed. If I use the door keypad bottom 2 buttons it will lock and stay locked.

I can get it to lock by pushing the exterior door keypad or the button on the key fob. I had not thought about the rear tailgate switch, but maybe that is also what sets off my alarm system for no apparent reason...

Yeah, I think that the air pressure from closing the door just forces the tailgate to move a bit and the tailgate sensor breaks contact. Maybe a little adjustment of the sensor will solve this. It happens very infrequently so I haven't bothered looking into it more yet.
