I was recently told that my parking brake shoe was cracked in my 97 explorer. What will that cost me, and can I buy the parts anywhere other than a dealer?

The shoes are not carried by some auto parts stores. Autozone used to carry them but stopped, I bought mine at NAPA for about $25 exchange and I thought thy were really poor quality. This might be a good time to change the differential fluid because it is much easier to do the brakes with the axle removed. If you are in a rust zone, I recommend you also get new spring clips. Don't know how many brakes you have done. Most brakes you can do with your eyes closed. These are probably the trickiest brakes you will ever do to get the adjustment right..
