I only post this because I couldn't find the answer I needed in a previous post. I put the rear window down, and when I put it tried putting it back up, it won't even try to move. I've tried pushing the tailgate as tight as I can against the truck to make sure the sensor is getting contact, and I've tested the wiring with a multi-meter to make sure that I've got power going to the motor. I tested the wires as far as I can, but that stupid window is in the way.
The problem is, with the glass down, I can't get to the motor itself. Does anybody know how I can get that glass out of the way (other than with a hammer - I was already frustrated enough to almost try that.) I'd like to get the window up as soon as possible, since it's supposed to rain here soon, and I don't have a garage to park my toys in.
you can take the acess panel off and get to the bolts holding the window to the track... should be 4 13mm nuts if my memory serves me correct. then you will have acess to the motor. i had the same problem in my truck. it turned out to be a bad switch as far as i remember. (it was a few years ago) hope this helps a little
Originally posted by BillyBob69 I get that once in awhile myself. I open the tailgate and close it a bit harder and it kicks the safety switch in and then it works fine again.
if the gates not properly closed... i tried that about 100times when it happened to me. unfortunately that wasnt my problem
you can run a jumper to the tailgate motor and get it to go up that way...or if you disconnest the glass from the track you cad shove a 2x4 in there to keep the windo up till the rains gone. i know some that put in the wood and kept it as a permanent fix

The problem is getting to the motor with the glass in the way. It's like the motor is in a display case. I can look, but not touch. I'm just going to have to try to remove the glass from the track and take it out that way.
I love this truck, but it's the biggest pain in the a** sometimes! (Window this month, starter problems and electrical fire in January, fuel pump in November, transmission in September...)
I had the same problem a while back. Searching for information about it is how I found this site in fact. What finaly worked for me was that I wriggled my hand (carefully) inside the tailgate and felt around for this notorious switch everyone talks about. With the tailgate open, with the latches latched closed, my left arm holding the key switch on, I found that there was a long rectangular feeling thing in near the latch that would make the window jog a bit when I pushed on it. I gave it all a good wiggle from the inside and then lubed everything to do with the latches and closed it up. It has worked fine since. If it ever acts up again, I think I will find the wires to that switch and by-pass it. Hope it's not raining.
wow, all these problems seem to do with the window being down when its stuck. my window is stuck in the up position.
now being from the NW that may be a good thing with all the rain, but with summer approaching, i need the window to lower so i can remove the top for some beach fun.
i have searched, and found nothing, everyone on other forums says to either:
run a battery straight to the motor and try it that way, or get a new motor.
i just bought the damn thing last wednesday, so im finding bugs, and since im coming from owning a Geo Metro, im not inclined as to how most of this stuff works. ive always wanted a bronco, and now i have one, itll be a labor of love working on this thing.
Just thought I'd post a follow-up here for you guys. Turns out it was just a bad connector in the wiring. It was the plug that mounts on the inside of the tailgate just below the latch handle. I was getting power through it, just not enough to really do anything. Once I bypassed that connector, the window works fine. I was able to get the window up, and while I was at it, fix my rear defroster, which hasn't worked since the day I bought the truck.
Thanks again for the help and suggestions, everybody! I love this place, and while I don't post often, I read it just about everyday. (I just wish I knew enough to post more answers to the posts that I do read through.)
ps - I did get rained on a little, but not enough to complain
