stand alone ignition?
I've got an '88 Mustang LX with a 429 crammed in it. http://community.webshots.com/album/90052746upSpOY I race it in the Grassroots Motorsports $2004 Challenge, so I'm on a budget. Is there a way to wire up an electronic ignion from a later model Ford? I have an electronic ignition distributor(3 wires), and two brain boxes, one with 6 wires and one with 7. Anyone have have any suggestions? I know it's possible and heard it's pretty simple as well. Thanx in advance for any suggestions!
With the DS system, you can run a full 12v to the coil, but not as a daily driver setup. And don't accidentally leave the ignition on- it will melt the epoxy out of the box, and release the factory smoke.
You can wire up a duraspark system for next to nothing. Just get a box for a 78 F-100 302, with the blue grommet, and a manual for that same truck. As a word of advice, connect an extra ground wire, direct to the negative battery terminal, from the black wire on the distributor.

I ran a 12v source to the box, then from the box to the distributor
Why can't you run the 12v in a daily driver?
I've had no problems out of it
